Influence of micronutrient fertilizers and growth regulators on the technological qualities of sugar beet roots

Introduction. In the forest-steppe conditions of the Middle Volga region (Russia), which are characterized by contrasting weather patterns, optimizing the micronutrient nutrition of sugar beet using chelated forms of micronutrient fertilizers and plant growth regulators is an important strategy for increasing productivity and the technological quality of roots. However, systematic data on the synergistic or antagonistic effects of their combined application on the balance of sucrose accumulation and molassogenic substances in the region are lacking.
Aim. To establish the patterns and quantitative estimates of the effect of foliar treatment with chelated micronutrient fertilizers in combination with plant growth regulators on the formation of technological quality traits of sugar beet roots, and to identify the most synergistic combinations that minimize molassogenic substances while maximizing sugar yield.
Materials and methods. The paper studied the single-seed diploid sugar beet hybrid Skala (N-type sterile basis), bred by SoyuzSemSvekla. The work was carried out in 2024–2025 on leached heavy loamy chernozem under the conditions Penza Region. Foliar treatment was applied at the stage of 3–4 pairs of true leaves of sugar beet using various micronutrient fertilizers (Microvit-7 Bor, Amicide "Bor", Microvit Standard) and plant growth regulators (Furolan, Tsitodef-100, Stimmul EF).
Results. On average over the experiment years, the maximum sugar content (17.93%) and the highest predicted sugar yield (10.33 t/ha) were obtained with the combined application of Microvit Standard + Stimmul EF. The lowest technological sugar losses to molasses (1.21%) were recorded in the Microvit-7 Bor + Furolan treatment. The application of Amicide "Bor" increased sugar content but was accompanied by the accumulation of α-amino nitrogen and potassium, which reduced sugar yield.
Conclusion. In the forest-steppe of the Middle Volga region, chelated micronutrient fertilizers and plant growth regulators exhibited multidirectional effects on the technological "sucrose – molassogenic substances" balance. For production conditions, the combined application of Microvit Standard and Stimmul EF is recommended, as it provides an optimal balance between sucrose accumulation and reduced sugar losses to molasses.
