Abstract

Introduction. One of the methodological approaches to assessing the graft union condition is the determining of electrical resistance (impedance) in grafted grape seedlings. The impedance of procambial tissues of the vine objectively reflects the growth and development characteristics of plants. A comprehensive study of scion-rootstock combinations of wine grape varieties grafted on the rootstocks of AZOS group is relevant, and allows the identification of the most effective combination ensuring a high yield of standard planting material, as well as facilitates the introduction of new phylloxera-resistant rootstocks into the mass production of grafted seedlings.
Aim. To study the possibility of using the impedance method in order to assess the affinity of grafted grape plants on AZOS group rootstocks.
Materials and methods. Over the period of 2023–2025, 12 scion-rootstock combinations of grapes were studied. Electrical resistance measurements were carried out using a digital multimeter M 838 before planting the rooted grafted cuttings after stratification, then 20 and 60 days after planting the grafts in the nursery, and during lifting the grafted seedlings.
Results. High survival and low impedance values were observed in the group of varieties grafted on Berlandieri × Riparia Kober 5BB and AZOS-4 rootstocks, which affected the yield of high-quality planting material. Analysis of variance showed that rootstock, scion and impedance have a statistically significant effect on the yield of standard grape seedlings. Correlation analysis revealed a statistically significant strong negative correlation between the yield of standard seedlings and impedance. A decrease in impedance is accompanied by an increase in the yield of standard seedlings, which confirms the presence of a significant inverse correlation between these indicators.
Conclusion. New knowledge has been obtained on the potential of using phylloxera-resistant rootstocks of AZOS group to produce grape planting material and application of the impedance method to assess the survival rate of grafted components.
